Christmas Caroling.....

Area: Waipiolani and Mililani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Goodman

Hey whats up people?  So after I called you guys we went caroling at a hospital.  All of the missionaries were invited but only me, Elder Goodman and the Zone Leaders showed up. It was kinda a funny experience as we didn't even know what we were doing so we winged it.  The first guy we sang too we just couldn't stop laughing, because we walked in and started singing and he was totally out cold with his mouth open....and it gave us the giggles for some reason.  Then like and hour later we were singing to this other guy, he tried to stand up but I guess he wasn't supposed to stand up. but we didn't know that and he fell over and hit the back of his head on the wall.  We kinda didn't know what to do, so Elder Wahlberg had to pick him up and put him back on his bed.  We went and got an assistant.  It was a good experience though to go caroling.

So the Kaaiawaawa's finally actually came to church this last Sunday, which was super nice because I've been trying to get them to church for a long time. I texted him and he said that they might come, so that was pretty cool.  We found this new investigator while tracting the other day. Shes Filipino and she lives with a member. Shes been taught before but never baptized, so we will pursue a steady course with that one.

so ya I love you guys cya later!

How about a 7am phone call?

Area: Waipiolani and Mililani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Goodman
So ya... I will probably be calling home around 10 AM or 11 AM Hawaiian time.  So I'm not sure what time that is in Utah (thats like 7-8am yikes...so much for sleeping in for us!) but just to let you know.

This week was pretty good. We found some new investigators the Lacio family in the M2 ward and the Worley family in the Waipiolani ward. We were just walking back from the Kaaiawaawa family when Mrs.Worley just called us over asking where her church building was.  We told her and we found out her husband was a non-member.  We thaught him Satuday he has some problems with some pride and stuff that I think is holding him back.  Our ward mission leader in the M2 ward set us up to meet with a Lacios and they are a nice family.  The husband is a non-member and kids as well.  Husband has been through some pretty deep stuff.

Church yesterday was really good!!  A lot of singing, actually the entire sacrament was singing and some how me and Elder Goodman got roped into singing with brother Hoopii and sister Simpson.

But ya that's pretty much it for right now. I'm kinda getting bored of writing every week haha.  I'll be home soon I guess.

K cya guys later.

A $3,000 Kirby Vacuum

Area: Waipiolani and Mililani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Goodman
Yes Family.... I did get the Christmas package, it made it all intact, which is pretty nice. I'll be sending the cousin gift soon, I have it in a  box and stuff.  It's not gonna be super extravagant.

We had a Stake Christmas concert thingy this last Sunday @ 7 pm.  Our ward sang, the missionaries also sang a song. We also had our other wards Christmas party for the Waipiolani ward.  The young men and young women were in charge of the entire thing, it was pretty cool, lots of good food.

Some guy came over and Kirby vacuumed our house for free! but then after he was trying to sell us a $3,000 dollar vacuum, we aint got time for that!  Our carpet looks better though for sure.

So ya our week was pretty good. love you guys and ill see ya later!

I SWEAR it wasn't swimming....

Area: Waipiolani and Mililani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Goodman

Hey whats up everyone!??

This week was pretty fun, some parts were a little tiring.  We have been having splits pretty consistently with our WML (ward mission leader) and all of our Ward missionaries every Tuesday at like 7 pm for a long time now......so thats pretty cool, if you guys want to come you can.  :)

Man, yesterday we were at church pretty much all day. We got there around like 6:30am and then had church until like 3. We only had from 3 to 4 to do anything cuz we had dinner then we had our mission tour @ 6 all the way till 9.  That was pretty cool.

Elder Johnson from the Seventy came down and slapped some ward mission leaders with the missionary work. It was nice.  All the missionaries on the entire island were there with WML's and Bishops.

We did some pretty hardcore service for this dudes eagle project. I swear it wasn't swimming it was service! We were de-weeding a bunch of ponds up Waimea valley. It was hard work, my back really hurt after that. Still kinda does.

Mililani 2nd ward had there Christmas party this last Saturday, so we attended.  It was pretty fun with a lot of food, but during the party kids got freaked out cuz this guy walked up and was looking really creepy and stuff.  So we had to go and investigate and look in all the rooms make sure those was no guy creepin' around.  We secured the area only to find that he was cruising in his car.  Later we found that same guy was arguing with one of the other ward members cuz I guess he was drunk.   I went a found Brother Gustaves our WML in M2 and he calmed the guy down. It was pretty fun.

We have been sharing the He Is The Gift video with a lot of our ward member as we go around. We talked forever with the Gaileys, they are Scottish Hawaiian. We talked about family history work for along time.

Well that's pretty much it! You guys have good life!

A Turkey Imu

Area: Waipiolani and Mililani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Goodman

Hey hows everyone doing!?

So transfers are this week and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to stay here in Mililani and just cover both areas until I go home.  Should be fun.

This last Thanksgiving was pretty fun.   We had dinner with the Kings, a Tongan family that is in our ward. We were at the park and the weather was really good. We helped Brother Jackson out a lot this last week with making an Imu ....which is pretty much digging a big whole in the ground and I was the one that had to tear apart the banana tree's.  The Imu pretty much steams the food with all the water in the banana tree and the fire and stuff.  Pretty cool!  The turkey tasted really good, it falls right off of the bone as its steamed and then soaks in all of the juices so its not dry at all.  Really good turkey!  We also watched the best 2 years Thanksgiving night as a zone, pretty fun.

Imu

Our new ward mission leader in the Waipio ward has really been a big help for us lately.  There is a senior couple that works in our stake that has been on 10 missions. I thought that was pretty cool. They talked to us this last Sunday and always come to district meeting and stuff.

Things have been going good though!  I'm so thankful for all that you guys do!  Thanks Grandpa and Grandma for the box you guys sent!

60,000 miles....

Area: Waipiolani and Mililani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Goodman

Hey hows everyone doing? Everything is going pretty good over here.  Today for p-day we just went to the beach, but we didn't go swimming or anything just watched the waves and all that good stuff..

We had a lesson with Kelsey and we set her with a baptismal date for the 26th of January I think.  I wont be there for it but its ok... its all good. The Mililani football team just won the state championships so that's pretty cool.  A lot of the people are talking about that around here.

Our car also finally hit 60,000 miles, which means eventually we will get a new car maybe... we will see what happens. We did a lot of service this week. A lot in Wailua.  We were taking out a whole ton of California grass.  That stuff is pretty gnarly, but they had a sweet back yard with a river in the back and fish and all that stuff.  One of the Filipino Elders tried to spear one of them with a stick.  We did service also for the Velascos... we usually go over there every week and help them with their yard, because he cant walk very well and neither can the wife now.

Sundays are pretty exhausting because we have to go to two different wards. It felt like church overload yesterday, I kinda got a headache.  Our AC unit shot out ice at me this morning. It was actually pretty cool.

Ok cya guys later hope you guys have a good thanksgiving and have fun at the cabin.

Two Elders, Two Wards

Area: Waipiolani and Mililani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Goodman

Hey hows it going people! So last week I was in a tri-panionship, but right after I had emailed you guys we got called from President Warner and then Elder Gee was transferred to Maui.  So now I'm companions with Elder Goodman and we cover both Waipiolani ward and Mililani 2nd ward.   It's been pretty fun to do that.  Just an extra ward to juggle now. 2 sacrament meetings 2 ward councils in the morning every Sunday! ... all that kinda stuff. Its been pretty interesting with both wards as we keep pretty busy we just have to coordinate all of the things that happen a little bit better so it all works. Elder Goodman is from Gilbert Arizona hes been out like 19 months or something like that. He's a pretty cool guy.

We went to Pearl Harbor again this last Wednesday to do service. I forgot my camera, but its ok I've been there plenty of times.  This morning we went fishing with some of the other elders at some small lake. Some of the other elders caught catfish and stuff. I didn't catch anything though. It's all good.  Then we went and played rugby and I left my shoes in another elders car so I just played bare foot. I was pretty dirty after that.

The only problem with the Mililani 2nd Elders pad that I'm living in now is that they have cockroaches!  I friggen hate those things.

The Kaaiawaawa family said that they would come to church this last Sunday but we were there and they never came.  Also I visited the Davis family with our Bishop, Bishop Goo, they said that they were going to come to church as well but  we were there and they didn't show up.  Its ok its not that big of a deal. I know that they will come to church sometime in the future.

.......And mom you don't have to be worrying about me. I'm fine!

O ya, we're teaching this one kid named Kai.  He's a little Vietnamese kid that 9 years old.  He has ADHD and tourettes.  Man kids now a days cant get away from there friggen iPads and all that kinda of stuff.  its really hard to teach him.

I kinda need to go soon, but the scripture that I really liked this week was Ether 12:27.  I use that scripture at one of our lessons this week.  I always liked that scripture.

Ok well you guys have a good week!

A CHANGE: Tri-Companionship

Area: Waipiolani and Mililani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Gee and Goodman

Hey whats up everyone?  How you all doing? Thats nice.

So this last week has been interesting.  My companion Elder Stulce actually got ET'ed (emergency transferred) to the Waipahu 2nd ward.  It was kinda random and out of the blue, but President said that it would be better for Stulce to learn faster if he had more teaching opportunity's and really the Waipiolani ward is a small ward with not really a lot of investigators.  It should be good for him to improve at teaching.  But as of right now they put me in a tri-companionship because there's no one else to be my companion. I'm with Elder Gee and Elder Goodman and now we cover two wards together the Waipiolani ward, and the Mililani 2nd ward. Pretty interesting turn of events.   Now I sleep on the floor and share one bathroom with three other people and kinda living out of a suitcase.  Kinda suxs a little bit but its alright.

We set Kelsey with a baptismal date for I think the first Saturday of December.  We have really pushed them to come to church and they said that they would come to church this coming Sunday hopefully.

P-day was kinda hectic because were in a threesome.  We finally did get a new ward mission leader.  His name is brother Miyamoto. He's a really awesome guy.  I feel that it will work better now.  I have a big rug burn on my leg that really kills, but I'm doing good!

Love you guys a lot and much mahalos and alohas!

A simple, but productive missionary week

Area: Waipiolani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Stulce

Hey Mom and Dad hows it going?

This week was pretty good. We found a new investigator to teach her name is Kelsey.  She had been taught by the missionaries before but she never was baptized.  We teach them every Tuesday night at 6pm with a standing appointment -- pretty cool.

We are going to get a new ward mission leader this next Sunday finally.  We haven't had a ward mission leader for like a month haha, but its ok.

I went on exchanges with Elder Johnston, in Wahiwa 3rd ward. they cover a lot of the military base up there.  So its was really nice to go over there for a change of scenery.

Halloween was pretty fun.  We didn't get to go trick or treating but it was still ok.  Everything is going pretty good here!

Thanks for all that you guys do!

A Good Missionary Week.....

Area: Waipiolani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Stulce

This week was pretty good we had the chance to go to the Laie temple and that's always nice.  A couple of the wards combined and did a trunk or treat this last Friday.  We got some candy and threw it in our trunk and then we handed out candy and pass along cards and pamphlets it was pretty fun!!

 Trunk or Treating Missionaries

I went on exchanges with one my District Leaders this Saturday.  His name is Elder Takei.  He is from Japan, but lived in Utah for like 4 years.  He's 27 and he is a pretty interesting guy and a very nice guy.

We did service for Brother Valasco again.  He's an old guy that got wounded in Vietnam and has a bunker in his back yard.  We just sweep all the leaves, watered all of the plants and bagged a lot of junk .

I got called on Wednesday I think it was, for me and my companion to give a talk in Sacrament this last Sunday because someone bailed. ......so my talk was on fasting and my companions talk was on fast offerings, but he messed up and gave it on tithing instead.  Kinda funny.

We still don't have a ward mission leader, just kinda flying solo right now.

We taught a lot of the same investigators from last week. we just need them to get to church, that's the only way that there going to progress. its kinda hard because you don't want to force them, you want them to do it because they want to.

Yes I did get the package.... thank you for that.... it was delectable.

Well I hope that you guys have a good life!

What's her face? ...I think Hurricane Ana?

Area: Waipiolani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Stulce

What's up!

So this week we did teach Tatiana a lesson and it went pretty good! We taught about the law of chastity and thats always really fun -- always enjoy that one...... We also got to teach Kiana.  She's a cute 9 year old girl.  We taught the gospel of Jesus Christ and that also went pretty well.  She actually said yes to being baptized, so now we just have to get her to come to church and she always has soccer games on Sunday so that's kinda hard.  Soccer season is ending soon so that should be good timing.

We got hit by hurricane, whats her face, I think Ana?   That sounds close enough.  It just rained a lot and sometimes there was some lightening.

We play rugby sometimes in the morning and that's a pretty good workout, a lot of running involved.  Transfers were this week but I'm staying.  I'll probably be here for the rest of my mission, which is fine.  One of my best friends went home though :(

poor Elder Miller

Our ward  mission leader got released after being ward mission leader for only like a month. I guess that he couldn't take the heat or something haha, so were probably going to be getting a new one of those guys soon.

o Ya!  We got to perform the "Haka" for the Wailua ward.  Me, Elder Stulce, Elder Ili, Elder Snell, Elder Hansen and Elder Lee.  It was the Samoan one.  They where having a talent show this last Saturday and the Elders in Wailua recruited us.  I did not really know the words very well but I pretty much know all the moves.

I taught gospel principles class this last Sunday (pretty much like every Sunday for the last 3  months) and pretty much I teach it by myself cuz Stulce just rambles if he does talk haha.

We had dinner with the Swords this last week.  I really like having dinner with them. They are from Samoa, but they actually made us hamburgers this time, cuz sometimes I joke around about how I eat rice so much and I'm sick of it and they made homemade fries and hamburgers instead, so I should do that more often.

Our new district leader is from Japan Elder Takai.  So that's pretty much it! .......... k thank you guys cya later

A day in the life of an LDS Missionary

Area: Waipiolani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Stulce

Hey whats up Mom and Dad! Hows it going?  Things are going pretty good here.

We got to teach Tatiana the word of wisdom this week, but they didn't come to church.  We'll keep working with her.

We also had a dinner appointment with this lady.  We went over and immediately I could tell that she was drunk.  Her eyes were glazed over and all that.  We ended up going to Taco Bell.  It wasn't pretty.  She started crying and she start to tell us some things in her life that happen, which were not good and I dare not repeat.  She kept asking why did God abandon her and all that and basically she had a melt down.  That was a bit of a difficult situation and we did the best we could.

We went to Pearl Harbor this week to do service.   That's always enjoyable.  Elder Stulce is progressing with his teaching too.

Thank you guys so much!

Love you guys cya!

General Conference at the Mission Home

Area: Waipiolani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Stulce

This week was pretty nice!  We finally got to teach, Brad, one of our investigators.  He's a really cool guy and I think that he might have potential for baptism.  We also had lessons with Tatiana shes around 14 she wants to be baptized we just have to get her to church.  We also taught another little girl named Kiana she is 9 and shes really sweet.  Those are all the progressing investigators that we have at this time.   Now, we just got to work on getting them to come to church.

We had a chance to watch Meet The Mormons in Laie this last Wednesday -- it was pretty good!

The talks I liked the most from General Conference where probably Elder Nelson, Bednars and Hollands -- those where my most favorites I think.  My memory wasn't that good.  I was drawing pictures and doodling so I could stay awake.

well that's pretty much all that I can think of saying and writing right now.

I love you guys -- have a good week and Aloha oe

Elder Shoemaker

This is when we watched conference at Presidents house at 6am in the morning had to wake up at like 4:30am.  The breakfast was pretty good.

Hey Mom and Dad -- how are you doing!??  This week was pretty good.  For this next general conference weekend we get to enjoy eating pancakes with President and Sister Warner because we achieved all of our goals that we had set to ourselves.

This previous Sunday we had a chance to teach gospel principles again and we got to teach the law of chastity. It was pretty fun actually!  I kinda have to go soon, but just know that I'm doing good!

I can name that tune in 6 notes.....

Area: Waipiolani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Stulce

Hey Mom and Dad hows it going?

This week was pretty good.  I was glad when it rained this week.  Hopefully it will rain more soon, but the bad thing about the rain is that it gets our couch that is outside wet sometimes and also for some reason after it rains tons of friggen gnats come up and try to get in my eyes and ears and mouth. Its grotesque.

We had a ward party this last Saturday. It was really fun. It was a game show showdown where members of the ward played different game shows. I won the name that tune game and at one point randomly they were asking for a surf board so I stole Brother Serrao's surf board that was laying on the ground and won the 100 grand ( just a candy bar).  It was pretty funny.

Brother Serrao's Surf Board! He's a funny funny guy

Healthy Food from the Party!

Today for p-day we went to Waimea Valley.  Saw a waterfall and I learned how to make a bracelet out of dried leaves. Its was pretty cool.

Fruit from the Tree of Good and Evil! - (It's true!)

Bracelet that I made!

The work is moving forward. We have potential for like 4 baptisms but its kinda hard sometimes. People are always so busy and the kids that we work with all have sports on Sundays and stuff like that so its hard to get them to church. I've been trying not to push people as much, but more let them make the decisions for them self.  I feel like its better that way. I really think that this ward is the best and our Bishop is one of the best Bishops that I have ever worked with. Everyone is just so supportive - its awesome.

I had time to play risk with Elder Stulce.  I friggen moped the floor with his entrails haha, it was pretty fun.

I hope that you guys have a good week love you guys and Aloha Kinisou Chapur.

God placed us there for a reason

Area: Waipiolani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Stulce

Hey hows it going! Things over here are getting pretty dang good. But oohhh man its been really humid over hear lately.  Makes me miss the dry air back in Utah.

This week was pretty eventful, even though my companion is kind of a silly guy, I still love him haha.  He just confuses words really bad and its the most entertaining thing in the world when we go tracting.  Its just kinda funny and he makes me smile.  We found like 6 new investigators this week! Which is pretty dang good!  We were just making contact with a lot of the former investigators that the missionaries in the past had taught.

Tomorrow we are going to the temple so we get to drive all the way to La'ie which should be fun.

Today we woke up at like 3:45am and we played murderer in the dark.  Mannn that was like the most fun that I have had in a long time.  We were just playing in the church. Its really scary at night/kinda freaky.

We taught a less active guy this week named John.  We went with our Bishop.  We met him last week.  We were just walking and he called us over and he lived in the apartments that we had just visited but he was not on the ward list.  He said that he was trying to figure out a way to get in contact with the missionaries and that he wanted to become active again.  I told him that God put us in his way for a reason and that we would help on his road back to activity.  Bishop Goo came with us to his house.  He's a pretty nice guy and has one unbaptized kid 16 years old.  We have been able to work a lot better with the ward lately.  Our ward is a really good ward even though its one of the smallest wards in the stake.

O ya I went to a garage sale the other day after we were done doing morning exercise and I was able to bargain myself a fishing pole, its pretty ok too!  So hopefully I will get to try it out soon.  I surprised myself because I remembered how to tie all the knots and figure it out and stuff.   We also found like 3 fans on the side of the road and like a couch a couple wheely chairs.   Man its been pretty hot here too. It makes you glad that you have air conditioning in your house.

I have pretty much had to teach gospel principles class like every Sunday since I  have been here, but its pretty fun. We got a new ward mission leader so things should be getting better.  We had dinner with the Tunupopo family this last Saturday at Ruby Tuesdays.  I havent eaten there in a long time so that was nice.

I got a hair cut --- my hair was starting to get too long. One of the Samoan members in our ward gave me a hair cut. His name is Johnson and he's 18 -- straight from American Samoa.   He's a pretty cool guy.

Well I'm getting kinda tired of typing on this key board and my arthritis is kicking in so I think that I'll just call it a day. ....haha

Forward Momentum

Area: Waipiolani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Stulce

Hey Mom and Dad --- I don't really have a whole lot of time, but this last week was pretty good.  We are trying to still get some momentum going in this ward as things are moving forward slowly, but they are at least going.  I just went on a long hike so I'm really kinda dirty and my companion doesn't have a library card so I'm going to let him use mine so I have short time.

Yes I did receive the stuff that you sent me.  Thank you so much Mom.

We have lots of good people in this ward a lot of Samoans and a lot of Filipinos.  There is a member of the ward that we just give a list of all the food and stuff we want and she goes and just buys it all for us.  One of the nicest ladies I have ever met.  We have some potential investigators that we will hopefully have a chance to teach this week, so that will be good.

I need to let my companion get on the computer so I will just say have a nice day!

New Companion

Area: Waipiolani Ward, Oahu
Companion: Elder Stulce

Hey how's it going? I can't believe that you guys got another friggen dog. I guess that's pretty cool.  My new companions name is Elder Stulce from Springville Utah I believe.  He's a young one at 18 fresh from the MTC.   He's a little tentative about teaching, just like I was when I started.  We will just keep on practicing.  We are still getting acquainted and he seems like a good kid, but he's definitely much different than me.

Oh Ya I did get my glasses and they work pretty dang good.  Thanks Mom!  We drove a lot this week so it was good that I had the new glasses.   We visited a lot of less active members and we got a new ward mission leader which is pretty cool.  Both of the ward mission leaders in the ward are awesome guys.

Well I hope you guys have a good week.

Area: Waipiolani Ward , Oahu
 Companion:  Elder Soifua

Well this last week was pretty good.  The hurricane wasn't even that bad over here where we are located.  Just some showers not bad at all.... I've seen worse back at home.

Most of the appointments that we had this last week got cancelled and stuff like that which is okay, we will keep pushing along.

We played some ultimate Frisbee this morning.

Don't have a whole lot of time. Sorry it's short.

I love you guys and cya later
